The passing of our prophet

It was about 8:30 or so when Mindy walked over to me at the baptism we were attending and said that Pres. Hinckley had passed away. I looked around at the faces of those in our little group. There was a sense of sadness and yet peace. We gathered and hugged. We cried and remembered. Our mortal time with this great leader had come to a close. Our loss would obviously be the gain of his wife and many others beyond the veil. How sweet are those reunions! And yet, all of us, and of course to a greater degree - his family here, will feel that void while seeking to keep his memory bright and his teachings alive.

Sunday Morning

I am convinced that the more time you give us on Sunday morning to get ready for church (which in our case now is the whole morning), the more opportunity we have for disasters. This morning we had our share. From the Shamu show that drenched the bathroom floor to the raw egg splattered on the newly cleaned carpets, our children were in rare form. By the time 1:30 rolled around, I was just about ready to call it quits, but off we went to church anyway. Three hours later, the 3 Book of Mormon talks, a 1st Nephi and a marriage lesson had soothed the savage beast and I was much kinder, gentler Papa. I am now convinced that Sunday mornings are just a test to see who it is that really needs to be in church. I pass the test (or don’t pass it, however you see it) — I need to be there.
